General Questions
What is Bigstretch Encinitas?
Bigstretch is a mobility and recovery focused gym specializing in one on one assisted stretching and performance based mobility training. We help active adults and seniors move better and stay independent longer.
How is assisted stretching different from stretching on my own?
A trained specialist can position your body with proper alignment, leverage, and timing. Most people cannot safely reach the same depth or precision on their own.
Are you physical therapists?
No. We are not a medical clinic and we do not diagnose or treat injuries.
What is assisted stretching?
Assisted stretching is a guided session where a trained specialist safely moves you through customized stretches to improve flexibility and range of motion.
Do I need to be flexible to start?
No. Most of our clients start because they feel tight or stiff.
Is this a spa or massage service?
No. We are a mobility gym focused on movement improvement and performance support.
SENIOR AND ACTIVE ADULT QUESTIONS
Is assisted stretching safe for seniors?
Yes. Sessions are customized to your mobility level and comfort. Many of our clients are adults over 50 who want to stay active and independent.
How can assisted stretching help aging bodies?
As we age, muscles tighten and joints lose range of motion. Assisted stretching helps maintain flexibility, improve movement, and support daily activities.
How soon will I feel results?
Many people feel looser immediately after their first session. Lasting improvements typically occur with consistent weekly sessions.
Can I do this if I have arthritis?
Assisted stretching may improve comfort and mobility, but it does not treat arthritis. Consult your physician before beginning if you have medical conditions.
Will this help me get up and down more easily?
Improved hip and leg mobility often makes it easier to get in and out of chairs, cars, and beds.
Can stretching help with posture?
Improved flexibility in the chest, shoulders, and hips can support better posture over time.
Can stretching help with balance?
Improved mobility can support better balance and movement control, which may help reduce fall risk when combined with proper strength training.
How often should seniors come?
A common starting point is once per week. Some clients choose two times per week for faster progress.
Red Light Therapy
What is red light therapy and how does it work?
Red light therapy uses red and near-infrared wavelengths from clinical-grade LED panels (we use Merican M4N). The light is absorbed by your cells’ mitochondria, where your body produces energy. No UV, no heat damage, no downtime. Sessions are ten to twenty minutes.
What might it help with?
Many clients use it for muscle recovery, general tightness, circulation, skin tone, and sleep quality. It is wellness support, not a medical treatment.
Is it safe?
For most adults, yes. The light is non-ionizing and non-UV, and you wear eye protection. People who are pregnant, in cancer treatment, on light-sensitizing medications, or with conditions like lupus should check with their doctor first.
Can I add red light to my stretch session?
Yes — and most of our regulars do. Ten minutes before or after your stretch. Mention it when you book
TECHNIQUE QUESTIONS
What is PNF stretching?
PNF stands for Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation. It combines gentle muscle contractions with stretching to improve range of motion more effectively.
Is every session PNF?
Not always. Some sessions are more passive and recovery focused. Others include active engagement depending on your goals.
Why is PNF effective?
By briefly engaging the muscle before relaxing, the body often allows a deeper and safer stretch.
Does stretching hurt?
You should feel a strong but comfortable stretch, never sharp pain.
